Meet Louise O'Riordan
I’m Louise — Founder of Mindful People Ltd, a people-centred HR Consultancy, HR professional, advocate, and someone who truly believes that workplaces can be kinder, more human, and far more effective when we invest in our people.
For more than 20 years, I’ve supported organisations through growth, change, conflict, restructures, recruitment challenges and everything in between.
Why I’m Not “Typical HR”
One of the things I hear most often is:
“You’re not like normal HR.”
Sometimes people tell me they don’t like HR because, in their experience, HR only appears when something has gone wrong.
I always tell them that makes me a little sad—because that’s never what HR was meant to be.
I believe HR should be a support service, not a control function.
Our role isn’t simply to manage grievances, disciplinaries and policies. It’s to help managers understand employment law, apply good practice fairly, support leaders to make better decisions to become good people managers and create environments where people can genuinely succeed.
I’m there for the employees just as much as I’m there for the business.
I don’t believe HR should take sides.
I believe we’re there for both the organisation and its people.
When businesses invest in their people, they perform better.
When employees feel safe, respected and supported, they give their best.
And even when someone eventually leaves an organisation, I believe they should leave stronger than when they arrived.
If we’ve helped someone grow in confidence, develop new skills or simply feel valued while they were with us…
then we’ve done our job well.
That’s the kind of HR I believe in.
Why I Started Mindful People
After years in recruitment and HR, I saw the same pattern:
Companies promised great cultures but didn’t always deliver.
People left jobs they loved because they didn’t feel supported.
Managers were stressed, unsure how to help, and often overwhelmed.
I knew there was a better way.
Mindful People exists to bridge the gap between what organisations say and how people actually feel — through a people-centred, values-led approach to HR.
